Obverse description The enthroned figure of Count Louis II de Male, crowned and seated within a Gothic architectural canopy, shown facing. In his raised right hand he holds an upright sword, while his left hand rests upon an eagle-emblazoned shield. The throne is rendered in detailed Gothic style, and the overall composition reflects the courtly, heraldic aesthetic characteristic of mid-14th-century Flemish coinage. The legend is inscribed in the surrounding field, with punctuation by double saltires.
