Obverse description Draped bust of Emperor Menelik II facing right, wearing an ornate traditional Ethiopian crown with intricate geometric detailing and a neck cloth falling behind. The engraver's signature LAGRANGE appears in small Latin letters along the lower rim. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the effigy, reading in full 'His Imperial Majesty Menelik, King of Kings of Ethiopia.' The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the beard, facial features, and regalia, reflecting the academic style of the Monnaie de Paris.
