Obverse description Right-facing laureate bust of Napoleon I, depicted with a wreath of laurel leaves crowning his head and short curled hair, in the neoclassical style engraved by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier. The emperor's truncation is bare, rendered with fine detail consistent with the Imperial coinage series. The circular legend reads NAPOLEON EMPEREUR, with the text divided on either side of the portrait. The engraver's signature TIOLIER appears in small incuse lettering below the bust truncation. The field is smooth and unadorned, consistent with the refined style of early nineteenth-century French Imperial coinage.
