The Monnaie de Paris has issued an annual Lunar New Year quarter-euro series aimed squarely at the gift and collector market — these pieces carry no practical circulation function and were never intended to. The 2022 issue marks the Year of the Rabbit in the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, which ran from February 1st, 2023 to January 21st, 2024; the coin's 2022 date reflects the French fiscal and production year, not the lunar year itself.
