| Reverse description | Left-facing laureate and draped bust of Marianne, adapted from Louis Oscar Roty's celebrated medal design of 1893, with flowing hair adorned with an olive wreath and ribbon. The fractional denomination 1/4 E appears prominently in the left field, flanking the bust. The legend LOUIS OSCAR ROTY 1846-1911 curves along the upper rim, with ESSAI inscribed in the upper right field and Marianne 1893 along the right rim. The engraver's signature O. ROTY appears in small characters at the base of the bust truncation, and the design is enclosed by a toothed border. |
