Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Louis XV facing right, with bare head, rendered in the classical portrait style engraved by Norbert Roettiers. The effigy occupies the central field with fine detail in the drapery and armour. The Latin legend commences at the 7 o'clock position and runs clockwise around the periphery. A plain inner border separates the portrait from the surrounding inscription. The overall composition reflects the restrained Baroque portraiture characteristic of early-reign French royal coinage.

Reverse description Two interlaced, mirror-image letter Ls forming a royal monogram in the centre of the field, surmounted by a large French royal crown with fleur-de-lis finial rendered in fine relief. The mint mark 'A' for Paris appears in the lower field beneath the monogram. The circular Latin legend, incorporating the date 1720, surrounds the central device and is bordered by a toothed inner rim consistent with milled coinage of the period.
