Obverse description Central field displays a crowned French royal shield (écu) bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one, with a diagonal baton of cadency superimposed, flanked on either side by the initial letter H — denoting Henry II of Dombes. The shield is surmounted by a princely crown rendered in relief. The circumferential legend in Latin reads around the full perimeter of the flan, identifying the issuer as Henry, Prince of Dombes and Duke of Montpensier. The hammered flan shows typical surface texture and slight irregularity consistent with early seventeenth-century feudal minting practice.
