Additional information

The America the Beautiful series launched in 2010 as a direct legislative response to the commercial success of the 50 State Quarters program, with Congress authorizing five-ounce silver versions specifically to capture the bullion collector market. Yosemite was among the five inaugural parks struck that year, alongside Hot Springs, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and Mount Hood.

Each five-ounce planchet was individually inspected and shipped in a protective capsule — the Mint had no existing infrastructure for coins of this diameter and had to retool accordingly.
