Additional information

Guam's inclusion in the America the Beautiful Quarters program acknowledged an island that saw some of the Pacific War's most brutal fighting — Japanese forces invaded within hours of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, and the U.S. recapture in 1944 required nearly three weeks of combat against deeply entrenched defenders. The War in the Pacific National Historical Park, established in 1978, preserves several distinct sites across the island rather than a single battlefield.

Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco each struck this issue, with the San Francisco pieces produced in 40% silver proof and clad proof versions for collector sets.
