Reverse description The reverse design commemorates Utah's statehood and depicts the historic driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory Summit in 1869, symbolizing the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. Two facing steam locomotives—the Jupiter and No. 119—are shown head-to-head at the center of the design, separated by a large ceremonial spike driven downward from above. A stylized mountain range forms the background. The state name UTAH and the year of statehood 1896 arc across the top of the field, with the motto CROSSROADS OF THE WEST inscribed below. The year 2007 and E PLURIBUS UNUM appear along the lower border, and the engraver's initials JFM are visible in the lower right field.
