Reverse description The reverse features an upward-looking perspective of a Regal Fritillary butterfly (Speyeria idalia) rendered in fine detail against a field of Big Bluestem and Indian grasses, the signature flora of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas. The composition conveys the sweeping, open character of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem, with the grasses rising dramatically around the central butterfly motif. The inscriptions TALLGRASS PRAIRIE and KANSAS arc across the upper and lower portions of the design respectively, with the date 2020 and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM also present. The design was executed by artist Emily S. Damstra and engraved by Renata Gordon.
