Reverse description The reverse depicts a scenic view of the historic Garita del Diablo (La Garita), a distinctive sentry turret of the old city walls of San Juan, set against a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and a dramatic clouded sky. To the right of the central composition, a large hibiscus flower — the floral emblem of Puerto Rico — blooms in the foreground. The territorial nickname Isla del Encanto (Island of Enchantment) is inscribed in script lettering to the upper right of the field. The legend PUERTO RICO curves along the upper periphery, while the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 2009 arc along the lower rim. The engraver's initials JM appear discreetly in the lower right field.
