Reverse description The reverse depicts the allegorical female figure known as the Commonwealth statue, shown in full standing pose against the outlined silhouette of the state of Pennsylvania. A keystone, symbol of Pennsylvania's nickname 'The Keystone State,' appears prominently in the design. The state name PENNSYLVANIA and its year of admission into the Union, 1787, are inscribed, accompanied by the state motto VIRTUE LIBERTY INDEPENDENCE. The national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the date 1999, and the engraver's initials JM for John Mercanti are also present in the field.
