| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, based on John Flanagan's classic 1932 design as modified by William Cousins. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim. The inscription LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right of the bust. The mint mark (P or D) appears below IN GOD WE TRUST, and the engravers' initials JF and WC are incused at the base of the truncation. |
