Reverse description The reverse depicts a Formula One-style racecar superimposed over an outline map of the state of Indiana, referencing the famous Indianapolis 500 motor race. Nineteen stars border the lower portion of the design, symbolizing Indiana's status as the 19th state admitted to the Union in 1816. The state motto CROSSROADS OF AMERICA arches below the central device, while the inscription INDIANA and the admission year 1816 appear at the top. The national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the coin date 2002 are inscribed along the lower rim, accompanied by the designer's initials DW.
