| Reverse description | The reverse, engraved by Phebe Hemphill, depicts an immigrant family standing at the threshold of Ellis Island, rendered with emotional narrative detail conveying both hope and apprehension upon arrival in the United States. The Main Building of the Ellis Island Immigration Station is prominently featured in the background, accurately rendered as the Beaux-Arts landmark familiar to millions of immigrants. The inscription ELLIS ISLAND arcs above the central design, while NEW JERSEY appears below, identifying the state park designation. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 2017 are also present in the field, along with the designer's initials BF and PH. |
