Reverse description A dramatic panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains dominates the central field, depicting rugged, steeply carved peaks rising above a foreground of evergreen trees rendered in fine relief. A decorative ribbon banner in the lower field bears the state motto COLORFUL COLORADO. The state name COLORADO and the year of statehood 1876 appear as the upper legend, while the date 2006 and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM are inscribed below the banner. The design was engraved by N. E.
