| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of George Washington, the first President of the United States, rendered in high relief after John Flanagan's classic portrait design. The hair is styled in the colonial fashion with a queue, and fine detailing of the facial features is characteristic of the proof finish. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim.
