| Obverse description | The left-facing effigy of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), occupies the central field, rendered in the classic style originated by John Flanagan and modified by William Cousins. The legend 'LIBERTY' appears above the portrait, while 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is inscribed to the left. The denomination 'QUARTER DOLLAR' curves along the lower border, and 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' arcs across the upper periphery. The mint mark and designer initials 'JF' and 'WC' appear in small relief near the truncation of the bust. |
