Obverse description The obverse depicts the allegorical figure of Liberty seated upon a rock, facing left, draped in flowing robes and holding a pole surmounted by a Liberty cap in her right hand, with a shield bearing the word LIBERTY at her left. Two arrows, symbolizing the weight change of 1873, are positioned at the date below. Thirteen six-pointed stars are arranged around the periphery, seven to the left and six to the right. The date appears in the exergue, flanked by the arrows denoting the revised standard weight.
