| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty occupies the central field, her hair elaborantly curled and adorned with a star-studded cap or coronet bearing two prominent five-pointed stars. A small globular ornament surmounts the cap. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA curves along the periphery, reading from lower left to upper right, framed by a fine toothed or beaded border. The portrait is executed in a neoclassical style consistent with Philadelphia Mint engraving of the late nineteenth century. |
