Additional information

Abd Allah al-Ghalib was the first Saadian sultan to consolidate meaningful control over a unified Morocco, reigning from 1557 to 1574 after suppressing a challenge from his own brothers with Ottoman-backed forces. The fractional silver issues of his reign reflect an active monetary reorganization following the disruptions of that dynastic conflict. Brethes 1441 places this quarter dirham within the standard Saadian weight system, itself a deliberate break from the debased Wattasid coinage it replaced.
