| Obverse description | Hammered gold flan of irregular round form bearing Arabic legends in the field. The central area displays the Hijri date numerals prominently struck, with partial Arabic inscriptions surrounding them indicating the regnal authority of Sultan Moulay Sulayman. The strike is characteristically uneven, typical of the hammered coinage produced at the Fes mint during this period, with portions of the legend running off the flan edge. |

| Additional information |
Moulay Sulayman came to power in 1792 following years of fratricidal conflict among the sons of Muhammad III, and the Fes mint resumed gold production under his authority almost immediately — a deliberate assertion of control at a moment when the Alaoui dynasty's grip on Morocco was anything but secure. Small fractional gold issues like this quarter dinar were struck in limited quantities and circulated primarily among merchants and urban elites rather than in broad everyday commerce.
