Obverse description Draped bust of King Kanishka I facing left, wearing a distinctive Kushan royal headdress with a flame-like nimbus radiating from behind the head. The king holds a sceptre in his left hand, his robes rendered with fine linear drapery folds typical of Kushan artistic convention. A Bactrian legend in corrupted Greek script runs around the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, partially visible due to the small module. The portrait is rendered in a bold, somewhat schematic style characteristic of early Kushan royal coinage.
