Gronsveld was a tiny lordship wedged between the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and the Duchy of Limburg, and its minting activity in the late 1550s and early 1560s reflects the aggressive monetization strategies common among minor Netherlandish lords who exploited imperial coinage rights — sometimes generously interpreted — to produce fractional silver during a period of chronic small-denomination shortages. The Madonnadaalder series from this period is poorly documented in the major references; vdCh lists no variety number here, and surviving examples are rare enough that die studies remain incomplete.
