Additional information

Overijssel's decision to strike its own silver in 1578 came directly from the political rupture of the Union of Arras and the accelerating collapse of Spanish fiscal authority in the northern provinces. The States needed coinage that worked — not Habsburg issue whose legitimacy was increasingly contested at every market and toll gate. These fractional daalders circulated in a province still actively deciding which side of the revolt it was on.

The two-year window of issue reflects exactly that instability. Overijssel formally joined the Union of Utrecht in January 1579.
