Obverse description Central field depicts the Virgin Mary standing facing, crowned and nimbed, with hands raised in a gesture of prayer or blessing, rendered in the Gothic devotional style characteristic of mid-16th-century Low Countries coinage. The figure stands above a small shield or device in the lower field. The surrounding circular legend reads SANCTA MARIA VIRGO, separated by rosette stops, identifying the patron saint invoked on this Madonnadaalder type. The hammered flan is irregular and shows typical die wear consistent with the period.
