(Translation: His Imperial Majesty Menelik, King of Kings of Ethiopia)
Reverse description The crowned Lion of Judah, the traditional royal symbol of Ethiopia, is depicted passant to the left in the centre of the field, holding a cross-topped sceptre in its right forepaw. A royal crown surmounts the lion's head. A Ge'ez legend encircles the upper and lateral fields, while the denomination inscription appears in the lower exergue. The design is framed by a beaded border and executed in the fine medallic tradition of the Paris Mint.
