He is depicted wearing a period helmet and armour. The circular legend surrounding the bust reads UN · CUARTO · DE · BALBOA on earlier issues (KM#128.1) or UN · CUARTO · DE · BALBOA on later issues (KM#128.2), with the lettering style varying between archaic VN CVARTO and modern UN CUARTO orthography. A small wreathed ornamental device appears at the base of the bust, touching the lower rim. |
