Obverse description The national coat of arms of Panama is prominently depicted at center, featuring a quartered shield with a sword and rifle in the first quarter, a shovel and pickaxe in the second, the Isthmus of Panama with ships on both seas in the third, and a cornucopia in the fourth. An American harpy eagle with wings displayed surmounts the shield, bearing a ribbon inscribed PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO. Flanking the shield are decorative sprigs of olive and palm branches. Nine stars arc above the coat of arms. The legend REPUBLICA DE PANAMA curves along the upper periphery, with the date and mint mark FM appearing at the lower field.
