Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Maharaja Madho Rao Scindia occupying the central field, depicted wearing a plumed turban and an ornate beaded necklace with military-style dress. The effigy is rendered in moderate relief with fine detail in the headdress and collar. A circular Devanagari legend surrounds the portrait, reading the full royal title of the ruler along the periphery of the coin.

Reverse description The central field displays the Gwalior state coat of arms, featuring a crowned heraldic shield flanked by two rampant figures and supported by a decorative base with foliate elements. The denomination in Devanagari script appears as a legend at the top of the coin reading 'Pav Ana' (Quarter Anna). The Vikram Samvat regnal year 1974, equivalent to 1917 CE, is inscribed in Devanagari numerals along the lower portion of the reverse field.
