Additional information

Jodhpur's coinage under Umaid Singh was struck with British Crown permission, the maharaja's name paired with the reigning British monarch's on issues that acknowledged the Paramountcy without quite surrendering local identity. The 1939 date places this coin in the last sustained period of Princely State issues before wartime disruptions and, eventually, Indian independence pressured the states into monetary conformity. Jodhpur formally acceded to India in 1949, after which independent coinage ceased entirely.
