Obverse description Central field displays a heraldic helmet surmounted by a rampant lion passant to the left, rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of Low Countries medieval billon coinage. The design is enclosed within a double beaded or linear circle, with a circumferential legend in uncial Latin characters running between the inner and outer borders. The die work is typical of small hammered issues of the Gelderland region, with irregular flan shaping and moderate relief.
