Obverse description The obverse bears the Mexican national coat of arms at center, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak. The eagle is rendered in fine relief with outstretched wings, facing left in the traditional heraldic manner. A decorative wreath of oak and laurel branches frames the lower portion of the device. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script.
