| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, wearing the George IV State Diadem, with a draped bust truncation. The circumferential legend reads 'ELIZABETH II' to the left and 'ISLE OF MAN' to the right, with the date '2003' positioned at the lower right. Small Triskeles privy marks of the Isle of Man appear at the top of the legend and at the lower left, with the engraver's initials 'IRB' present on the truncation. The portrait is set within a raised inner border separating it from the outer legend area. |

The Isle of Man's annual lunar series ran for decades under the Pobjoy Mint franchise, which held the coining contract from the 1970s onward and used the arrangement to produce a prolific range of bullion and collector issues. The 1/25 Crown denomination was introduced specifically to offer an entry-level gold piece at accessible price points, with the .9999 fineness matching Chinese Panda and Canadian Maple Leaf standards rather than the traditional .9167 of British sovereign coinage.
2003 marked the final year Pobjoy Mint operated from its Sutton facility before relocating.
