The Isle of Man's annual Cat series, running since 1988, rotates breeds each year and has built a dedicated following among thematic collectors — enough so that secondary market premiums frequently exceed melt value by a substantial margin regardless of gold price movements. The 2001 Somali issue coincided with a period when the Treasury was expanding fractional gold denominations aggressively, partly to capture collector demand that the full Crown format priced out.
KM#1067 is among the smaller fractional issues in the series, struck to .9999 fineness rather than the .999 standard used in earlier Cat coinage.
