Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit first appeared in print in 1893 as a privately illustrated letter to the young son of Potter's former governess. The centenary licensing boom of 1993 prompted numerous commemorative issues across multiple jurisdictions, Gibraltar among them. The 1/25 Crown format — a fractional gold denomination with no circulation function — was by that point a well-established vehicle for the bullion gift market, and this piece was squarely aimed at it.
