Gibraltar's 1/25 Crown bullion-adjacent series of the 1990s used the Crown denomination as a vehicle for pop-culture licensing, issuing small-format gold pieces commemorating figures entirely unconnected to the territory. Monroe died in 1962, and Gibraltar had no historical, political, or economic relationship to her whatsoever — the issue exists purely as a collectible product targeting the intersection of bullion buyers and Monroe memorabilia collectors.
