| Additional information |
Gibraltar's fractional gold Crown series of the late 1990s was produced largely for the bullion and collector export market, with the island's minimal domestic economy making large-denomination circulation coinage impractical. The 1/25 Crown denomination was among the smallest in the series, struck in four-nines purity at a time when that fineness standard was still relatively uncommon for Western minted issues — most competitors were still producing at .9167 or .999.
The Marco Polo theme placed this coin within a broader Gibraltar series drawing on historical explorers, issued across multiple years with rotating subjects.
