Issued under the Isle of Man Treasury's aggressive licensed commemorative program, this piece appeared the same year the first Harry Potter film hit cinemas — November 2001 — timed explicitly to that release. The Isle of Man had by then established itself as one of the most prolific producers of themed bullion and collector coinage in the British Isles, exploiting its fiscal autonomy to pursue licensing agreements unavailable to the Royal Mint.
At 1.24 g of .9999 fine gold, the 1/25 Crown denomination was designed specifically to offer an entry-level gold price point for collector-investors. KM#1088 is one of several Harry Potter issues from this year, each tied to a distinct scene.
