Obverse description Facing draped bust of Duke Frederick William II of Saxe-Altenburg, with long flowing hair falling to the shoulders and a wide lace collar, set within a beaded inner circle. The portrait is rendered in the baroque style typical of German memorial coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. The surrounding Latin legend reads +FRIDERIC9.WILHELM9.D:G.DUX.SAX.I.C.ET.M., identifying the duke by name and title, separated by stops and running along the full circumference of the coin.
