Obverse description Draped bust of Elector Frederick William (the Great Elector) facing right, set within an inner oval border. The effigy shows the ruler with long flowing hair and armored or draped shoulders in the baroque style of the mid-17th century. A Latin legend encircles the bust along the outer rim, abbreviated to denote his titles as Margrave of Brandenburg. The hammered flan gives the coin a characteristic irregular outline typical of mid-17th century German small silver coinage.
