| Reverse description | The reverse bears an entirely epigraphic design, with eight lines of Roman capital lettering filling the field, recording the biographical and memorial data of Duke Frederick I. The inscription notes his birth date of 31 July 1646 (rendered as XVI IUL. 1646 in the image), his death on 2 August 1691 (DENATYS 2 AVG), his reign of 17 years (REGIMINIS 17 ANN), his age of 45 years and 18 days (ÆTATIS 45 AN. 18 D), and his burial at Friedenstein on 5 August (HVMAT 9 FRIDEN / STEIN. 5. AVG). The date 1691 appears at the base of the field flanked by small ornamental marks. |
