| Obverse description | Central device depicting an open Bible displayed face-on, its pages inscribed in German with a passage referencing justification by faith (Romans 3), headed by the word 'Augustana' and captioned below 'Confessio.' The book is rendered in fine relief within an inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend, separated by a small rosette ornament, reads around the full field, recording the presentation of the Augsburg Confession to Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg on 24 June 1530. |
