| Reverse description | Armored bust of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester and Governor-General of the Dutch Republic, in right-facing profile. The effigy displays a plumed helmet or hat above curled hair, a ruffled collar, and elaborately striated armored pauldron and gorget, rendered in a vigorous late Renaissance style. The peripheral Latin legend, punctuated by star stops, runs continuously around the bust and conveys the civic motto of the United Provinces. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered provincial coinage of this period. |
