Obverse description Bare-headed, left-facing effigy of Louis XV with flowing, elaborately curled hair tied with a ribbon at the nape, engraved in the Baroque court style by Joseph-Charles Röettiers. The truncation of the bust is adorned with a small lion's head. The royal legend encircles the effigy in Latin, separated by lozenge-shaped stops, reading LUD•XV•D G•FR• ET NAV•REX (Louis XV, by the Grace of God, King of France and Navarre). The entire design is enclosed within a finely executed inner circle and an outer border of uniform beading.
