| Reverse description | Central design consisting of a floriated or flowered cross with elaborately ornate, foliate terminals extending to all four quadrants of the field, with small decorative elements at each arm-end. The date is divided by the upper arm of the cross and appears in the upper field. The surrounding circular Latin legend, separated by a decorative stop, proclaims the pious motto of Philip II. The overall composition is typical of the ornate Burgundian-Habsburg cross coinage of the Low Countries in the later sixteenth century. |
