Obverse description A highly detailed coiled dragon occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The dragon is rendered in high relief in the East Asian artistic tradition, with finely engraved scales, claws, and a fierce open-mouthed visage. Chinese characters arranged in the outer field between the beaded border and the coin's milled rim read the issuer name and reign date above, and the denomination below. Four small ornamental dots punctuate the field at the cardinal points outside the beaded circle.
