Obverse description Crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms displayed at center, flanked by the mintmaster initials D and O positioned to left and right of the shield respectively. The shield bears the characteristic Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons) arrangement. The design is rendered in hammered style typical of colonial Portuguese coinage produced at the Dio (Diu) mint in Portuguese India.
