Obverse description Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms — the quintuple escutcheon charged with bezants, enclosed within a decorative shield surmounted by a prince's crown with fleurs-de-lis and pearled arches. The shield is set against a plain field and flanked by small cross ornaments. A toothed inner border frames the design, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer periphery. The coin bears a small hole at the top, indicative of later use as a pendant or jewel piece.
